Sally Ross
February 15, 1949 — May 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved Board Secretary, Sally Ross, passed away on Sunday, May 3, surrounded by her dear friends.
Sally was an extraordinary woman, full of life, compassion, and creativity. She loved deeply, gave generously, and brought warmth and imagination to everything she did. Our community is forever better because of her presence, her care, and her ability to inspire others to think bigger and live life to the fullest. A retired UGA professor, Sally dedicated so much of her life to serving others, advocating for a stronger, healthier community and capturing the beauty of the world through her photography. Here at Athens Area Homeless Shelter, she was one of our fiercest supporters and most faithful champions. She never hesitated to show up when there was a need and made sure everyone in her network knew about our mission, why it mattered, and how they could help support families experiencing homelessness in our community. Her dedication helped countless families move from homelessness into safe, stable homes; the impact of which will continue for years to come. Beyond her dedicated service to AAHS, Sally was also a committed volunteer with the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition, where she provided rides and support to community members and worked tirelessly to ensure dignity and care for all people. Thank you, Sally, for all you gave to this community and for the lasting legacy you leave behind. Your impact on our organization, our programs, and our lives cannot be overstated and we are immensely grateful to have known you, learned from you, and been cared for by you. Rest easy, dear friend.
